Average review score:

An extremely satisfying ending!
In this book, a girl from the present (it says 1993 in the book but that's when it was published, so it's the present, basically) travels back in time to the 1920s and occupies the mind of a girl named Lila who sings with a choir. The girls get to know eachother through talking while the girl is time travelling, and the ending is exciting, well written, and very satisfying.

The Million Dollar Kick
Published in Audio Cassette by Recorded Books (December, 2002)
Authors: Dan Gutman and Christina Moore
Average review score:

Another Kick!
Dan Gutman has done it again with "The Million Dollar Kick", a sequel to "The Million Dollar Shot".

I know Dan Gutman through e-mails, I once met him at my school two years ago in Oklahoma City.

The character in this book "Carmen Applegate" was the name of my librarian at my elementary school. Also, another small character "Dan Mills" is the librarian at my middle school. "Bobbie Frisk" is the name of a teacher in the same district, though I have to tell you I don't her.

Please try to read all of Dan Gutman's books, they are very good, and I am sure you will enjoy them.

And also go to [their website] and find out about Dan's books, do some cool activities, read some of his rejection letters for "Honus & Me", and a lot more cool stuff!

Miracleman: The Red King Syndrome, Book Two
Published in Paperback by Eclipse Books (November, 1990)
Authors: Alan Moore, Alan Davis, and Rick Veitch
Average review score:

Breaks the mold and then kicks its puppy
Second volume in Moore's Miracleman series, The Red King syndrome is an almost mythic superhero adventure, but as in all things Moore, with as many twists and turnabouts as feasibly possible.

Begin with a Miracleman rendered utterly powerless by his arch-foe, Dr. Gargunza. He's been led there because his wife's been kidnapped. Too pedestrian? Add to it a genetically altered dog that's sent to hunt down the now-powerless superhero. Still not impressed?

Now have the dog eat Miracleman's companion and bite off two of our hero's fingers. Couple that with the hero's subsequent killing of the supervillain...and then a graphic (censored in many, many stores) representation of childbirth, and then the seeds of a story that will change a world, and then...and then...

Well, who am I to spoil it? It's a phenomenal read, deserving of space on anyone's shelf. If you can find a copy, treasure it; we're not likely to see another story of this caliber in a long while.

Miss Harriet Hippopotamus and the Most Wonderful
Published in Hardcover by Random House (Merchandising) (June, 1940)
Author: N. Moore
Average review score:

A '50s Classic
A friend told me about the Harriet books, and this was the first one I was able to find. (Incidentally, Amazon is a great source for out of print books.) I was enchanted, and since I'm a great fan of the '50s, the illustrations in pink, black and white blew me away. But the story itself was just charming. I've tried it out on a couple of turn-of-the-century kids and they loved it too. The message is timeless.

Monet to Moore: The Millennium Gift of Sara Lee Corporation
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (September, 1999)
Authors: Richard R. Brettell, Singapore Museum of Art, and Natalie Lee
Average review score:

Beautiful, Complete Review of a Magnificent Exhibit
This book shows in beautiful color each piece in the Sara Lee Millenium Gift. I saw the exhibit today and it is fantastic. This exhibit is the last time the pieces will be together before being dispersed to various museums in the US and abroad. This book is a wonderful way to gain insight into the collection process, the man behind it, and the individual pieces. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in corporate collections--Sara Lee Corporation is/was a significant pioneer in this area.

A beautifully designed book-a true gem
John Hedgeoce's amazing eye has captured the essence of Henry Moore's work. It is so difficult to reduce the size and shape of such monumental work to paper but for those of us who do not own one we can share them on a daily basis by way of this superb work.
